How Do I Install RPTV Replacement Lamps?

RPTV replacement lamps are usually simple to install. Most lamps from Laptops for Less include the lamp housing. If your lamp doesn't come with the housing, you may wish to hire a technician to do the replacement for you.

Consult your owner's manual, or follow these steps to install RPTV replacement lamps if your warranty and extended warranty have expired:

  1. Turn off the TV and let it sit for five to ten minutes while the cooling fan cools the lamp.
  2. Unplug the TV and let it sit for another hour so that lamp can continue to cool.
  3. If your lamp came with the housing, unscrew and remove the old lamp and housing. Seat the replacement lamp and housing in the slot, and then screw it in.
  4. If your lamp didn't come with the housing, open the housing and remove the old bulb. Most bulbs have a tab you can pull to remove them. While wearing cotton gloves to avoid getting oil from your fingers on the bulb, set the new bulb into the housing. Screw the lamp cover back on.
  5. Removing any plastic or packaging from the box the replacement came in and set the old lamp and housing inside.
  6. Most lamps contain mercury, so contact your local e-waste disposal unit to find out where you should drop off the old lamp. If your replacement lamp requires any rewiring or your TV needs additional maintenance, it might be worthwhile to call a technician for a home visit. You can have several maintenance issues performed for the cost of a single visit.
