How Do I Extend the Life of My RPTV Lamp?

In order to extend the life of your RPTV lamp to the maximum span indicated by the manufacturer, you should perform routine maintenance on the TV. You can also take a few precautions that may help prevent excessive wear.

Reduce RPTV lamp brightness settings
Most RPTVs are factory-set to the highest brightness settings. Choose the medium or low settings to extend the life. The expected life usually refers to the lamp when used at the lowest setting under optimal conditions.

Maintain clear airflow to the RPTV lamp
If possible, position your RPTV so there is a small gap between the set and the wall to allow clear airflow. This will also permit easier access to the air filter. Most air filters should be cleaned monthly, more frequently if you have pets that shed heavily.

Turn off the TV when you leave the room
A lot of people like to keep a TV on for the noise, but leaving an RPTV on will reduce the lamp life and increase your electricity bill. Instead, turn on the radio or a small TV.

Attach the TV to a UPS battery
Although a backup battery isn't necessary, it could help extend the life of the battery slightly. This is because the fan usually stays on for a few minutes after you turn off the TV to cool off the lamp. In a power outage, the fan and the lamp will turn off simultaneously. A UPS battery will allow you to turn off the TV properly.

Maintain a cool temperature in the room where the TV resides
Using a rear projection TV in extremely warm or humid climates could reduce the lamp life. By keeping the room cooler, you may extend the life. High altitudes may also reduce bulb life, but you can't adjust this unless you're willing to move.

Following these few simple tips could extend the life of your RPTV lamp by many hours, keep them in mind when using your TV.
