Power tool battery Fix
How do I fix my power tool battery?
Some power tool batteries can be easily fixed by the home user, but other issues should only be repaired by skilled repair technicians. If none of the below issues fix your power tool battery problem, consider replacing the battery or taking it to a repair shop.
Power Tool Battery Won't Charge
If the battery won't charge, first confirm that the battery is properly seated in the charger. If it's in backwards, it won't charge. If it's seated properly, see if the charge light turns on. If not, make sure the charger is plugged in and there is power going to the socket. Some sockets can be turned off at a wall switch. If you don't have a switch, try plugging the charger into a different socket. If the charge light still doesn't come on, you may need to replace the charger. If the charge light turns on, but the battery doesn't charge, you need to replace the battery.
Battery Runs Out Quickly
All batteries wear out over time. If your battery runs out more quickly, first confirm that it doesn't suffer from the memory effect. Fully discharge it and then recharge it 2-3 times to restore an NiCD or Ni-MH battery. If the battery still runs out quickly, or it's an L-ion battery, it may be time to replace the battery.
Power Tool Won't Run
First, confirm that you're using the correct battery and it's properly connected. Second, charge the battery. Third, clean the battery contacts on both the tool and the battery with a cotton swab and alcohol. Dirty contacts can prevent the tool from running. If you have a fully charged battery and clean contacts, but the tool still won't work, there could be an issue somewhere in the tool. Take it to a repair shop for further help.
Cordless Tool Give Electrical Shocks
If your tool shocks you when you use it, it may have a short in the cord or somewhere in the tool. If you're not skilled at electrical repair, visit a repair shop to have the tool fixed.
If you plan to use your tool for several more years and aren't skilled at electrical repair, visit a repair shop for any serious issues. You could break the tool or injure yourself if you attempt a home repair beyond those suggested above.
