How should I care for my portable DVD battery?

You can get the most life and power out of the battery you use in your portable DVD player by taking proper care of it. Here are some simple steps you can follow.

Preparing Your New Portable DVD Battery

When you purchase a new battery for your portable DVD player, it will most likely come to you completely discharged. Make sure to charge it fully before you use it in your player. Sometimes when charging new batteries they will appear to be fully charged in only a few minutes. If you observe this, disconnect them from the charger, give them a few minutes to cool off, and then reconnect them to the charger. Batteries can be difficult to charge when they are new. After four or five complete discharge/recharge cycles, your battery should reach its peak level of performance in your DVD player.

Long-Term Maintenance for Batteries

There are a few things you can do on a regular basis to keep your battery performing at its best. Store it away from moisture in a cool place. If you do not plan to use your DVD player for a while, charge the battery fully before you put it away for storage.

If your DVD player's battery gets so warm that it is uncomfortable to touch during use or during charging, there may be a serious problem somewhere in the device. Avoid damage to your battery and your DVD player by consulting an expert at a repair shop for advice.

Routine Maintenance

What most people fail to do is to keep an eye on routine maintenance for their batteries. To avoid this pitfall, ensure that your portable DVD battery goes through a full discharge/recharge cycle at least once a month. If you use your DVD player often enough to provide this maintenance automatically, that's great. If not, manually discharge and recharge the battery to keep its life long and powerful.
