Will my MP3 player car charger work in Europe?

In most cases, your MP3 player car charger will work in foreign countries. A few small island nations have car cigarette lighters with a different current, but in general you should have no problem using a car charger to power your MP3 player, cell phone, or other devices while in Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia.

Before traveling to a foreign country, you may want to check travel guides or local travel websites for information on the current for car cigarette adapters to make sure your car charger will work.

If you plan to use your device on the plane, you will also need an air adapter. This adapter converts your power source into the type of plug used on airplanes. A car charger is not the same, but some adapters will convert a car charger to an air adapter. The airlines use a standard air adapter, so you won't need to buy a different model for each airline you fly.

When you buy your car charger, check the plug that attaches to the device to see if it will fit any of your other devices. It's possible it will also work with your cell phone or camera battery charger. If not, you can buy additional car chargers or look for a car charger with universal plugs. Due to the wide variety of adapters on devices, you may not be able to find a car charger with a USB plug and all the other pin plugs. Of course, even if you do need to pack several car chargers, it may be safer than buying a voltage converter and attempting to plug your standard chargers into foreign outlets, especially in regions where electricity is unstable.
