Can I charge an iPod with an AC MP3 charger?

You can't plug a traditional iPod charger into the wall because it's designed specifically to plug into a computer's USB port. Most MP3 chargers have a different plug that isn't compatible with the iPod's port. However, an iPod AC charger is now available. The charger has a USB plug and a wall plug so you can charge anywhere, even if a computer isn't available.

You can also buy a universal MP3 charger with a USB plug and a wall plug, although it may not work with your iPod. It's best to buy one specifically labeled for the iPod. If you have an iPod AC charger, try it with your non-iPod MP3 player before buying a replacement because it might work.

If you're traveling, the iPod AC adapter is the easiest way to charge without having to bring a laptop or ask strangers for the use of their USB ports. If you'll have regular access to a car, you can also get an iPod car charger and use that to keep the iPod charged while you're on the go. With an MP3 player car stereo converter, you can even listen to your own tunes.

Although the iPod is designed to charge from the USB port, charging it from a wall outlet won't hurt the iPod if you're using an appropriate MP3 charger. You will, however, have to disconnect the wall charger to sync the iPod to your computer. You can't use an external charger and sync it at the same time. It's still best to charge the iPod from the USB adapter, but an AC MP3 charger can be the perfect way to get more use out of your iPod while you're on the road.
