What are the longest lasting portable DVD batteries?

If you use your portable DVD player frequently, you know that it sucks up battery power quickly. It can be a true hassle to have your battery die when you're in the middle of a movie and stuck on the road - or even on an airplane - and don't have the ability to recharge. Because of the high-tech features that movie players contain, they simply require a lot of power to work. Fortunately, there are now battery types that last longer and provide more power. Let us help you find the longest lasting portable DVD batteries.

A Quick Lesson in Battery Technology

Battery technology is always developing, and there are a few different battery types in common use in DVD players today. Alkaline cells (AA, C, etc.) are probably the most familiar, as they power a great range of devices in our daily lives. However, they don't last very long in high-drain devices like DVD players. A more advanced technology is in nickel-based types such as nickel cadmium or nickel-metal hydride. While these last longer and provide more power, they suffer from what is often called the "memory effect," losing their ability to recharge fully once they have gone through partial charge/discharge cycles. The newest technology is lithium-based. It has the longest lifespan and is not affected by the "memory effect."

The Longest Lasting Portable DVD Batteries

The Lithium-ion battery type is your best bet when it comes to providing long life for your player. Not only will a Li-ion battery power your device for a longer period of time, but it will also have a longer lifespan before needing to be replaced than will a battery with older technology.
