It's easy to replace an iPod battery if you have a little bit of experience with tools and some familiarity with electronic components.

  1. Using the provided tool, gently open the iPod case. For some models you'll need to pry the case apart very gently and in other models you'll need to push on the case to release the case locks.
  2. Continue releasing the case locks and either lift open the case or slide the components out of the case, depending on the model.
  3. Locate the battery. It will be the same size and shape as your replacement battery. The label may not be the same, but you should be able to find the battery easily.
  4. Depending on the model, you may need to unscrew the battery or use the provided tool to gently release it from the glue that holds down the battery.
  5. Disconnect the battery cables.
  6. Seat your new battery in the iPod in the same orientation.
  7. Reattach the battery cables.
  8. Lock down any screws that hold the battery in place.
  9. Close the case and snap it into the case locks.
  10. Connect the iPod to the charger and allow it to charge for a minimum of three hours before using it.
