How long can I leave the DVD camcorder battery attached?
Most camcorders now have an automatic shut-off that will stop charging the battery after it is full, so you don't need to worry about leaving it attached for a short while after it's charged. Storing the camcorder and the DVD camcorder battery is a different story. If you're putting your DVD camcorder away for a couple of days, then it's fine to leave the battery attached. You should still unplug the adapter from the wall when it's done charging to conserve energy and prevent the adapter from overheating. If you're putting the camcorder away for several weeks or months, then it should be stored without the battery attached. Detaching the DVD camcorder battery will help it maintain its charge longer and prevent the battery from damaging the camcorder should it leak or become corroded. Leaving the battery attached to the camcorder while in storage can also cause the battery leads and camcorder leads to become dirty or corroded. Although they can usually be cleaned, it's better not to risk it.If you will be transporting your camcorder, you should also disconnect the battery. Airport security may ask you to connect the battery when you go through security, but you should disconnect it afterward for the flight. Too much jostling could damage the connectors on the battery or the camcorder. When storing both your DVD camcorder battery and your camcorder for a week or longer, keep them in an appropriately sized case so your battery or camcorder doesn't get damaged or lost in storage.
