It's very simple to care for camcorder AC adapters. Always unplug them by pulling the plug straight out of the wall or camcorder instead of tugging on the cord. Tugging the cord could result in bent or stripped prongs. You should also keep the cord away from pets who might chew on it. When you don't need it, keep it in the camera bag so it doesn't get lost or damaged. When you do use it, plug it into a surge protector to protect the adapter and the camera.

Camcorder maintenance is also easy. You should invest in a quality lens cleaning cloth, available at most camera stores. If you tend to use the camcorder in situations when the camera body gets dirty, you can wipe it down with a second cleaning cloth. Avoid using cans of pressured air unless the can is specifically designed for use with camcorders because they could damage delicate camera components.

If your camcorder uses a tape, buy a head cleaner and run it about every 50 uses or after filming in dirty or damp conditions. If your camcorder records to a DVD, then you may want to occasionally blow dust out of the mechanism, but you don't need a separate cleaning device.

If you use your camcorder frequently, you may want to buy an external battery charger, extra battery, and extra camcorder AC adapter. If your camcorder uses Li-ion batteries, then the battery effect won't be a concern. If your camcorder has NiMH or NiCd batteries, then you should allow them to run all the way down before recharging them. To conserve the battery, use the AC adapter when connecting the camera to a television or computer to display or download video.
